West Marin Reclaimed Modern

This large ranch home was purchased from the former owner who had been in the home for over 56 years. The home needed some love, but there was great space and existing windows to work with. Although the home was basically gutted, the bones were saved as much as possible, some windows and many door and window openings were preserved. And in keeping in the spirit of the homes previous owner, Gloria Duncan, whom is credited with creating the first at-home recycling program in the US, many reclaimed materials were used, some even repurposed from the home during demolition.

Reclaimed Douglas Fir (former wall panelling in the home) was re-sawn for use in the window and door trim throughout the house. Reclaimed White Oak flooring is used throughout. Barn wood siding from local barns was used as interior wall panels and cabinetry throughout the home. And remnant barn wood and Redwood from throughout the project were finally used during the last phase in the construction of the contemporary tree house for the kids.
